Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Should I tip my piercer/tattoo artist?  and if so how much?

A.  It is customary to tip all service industry workers such as waiters/waitresses, hair stylists, tattooists, and piercers, so yes you should tip if you are happy with the service you received.
The average tip in the USA is 15% - 20% of the total before tax.

Q. How long will my piercing/tattoo take to heal completely?

A. It depends on the piercing and on your individual body, please see our aftercare instructions for aproximate healing times.

Q. Should I take my Jewelry out to clean my piercing?

A. NO!  Not unless you are fully healed, removing the jewelry for any reason before the piercing is fully healed often results in irritation, infection, and/or not being able to put the jewelry back in.

A. Come in and let us look at it, it may be just a simple irritation, allergic reaction, or just a normal part of the healing process but we will need to take a look to be sure.

Q. My tongue is really white and there seems to be a whitish ring around my piercing ... what should I do?

A. This is often caused by too much mouth wash or the wrong kind of mouth wash. If you are using mouth wash too frequently (more then 6 times a day and/or it contains alcohol (such as Listerene or Scope), it can destroy the layer of healthy bacteria on the top of your tongue. If this is the case use the mouth wash less frequently or switch to an alcohol free mouth wash such as Crest Pro Health or Biotene. You can also switch to a salt water mixture. 1/4 teaspoon of non iodized sea salt to 8 oz. of water.

Q. The bottom of my tongue piercing, right where the barbell comes out, there is a ring around the bar. It's hard like scar tissue. what is this, should I be worried?

A.  The bump that appears to be scar tissue is just that, scar tissue. This is common in tongue piercings. It is usually caused from mechanical stress or too much movement. I would suggest that you get your barbell downsized, that should alieviate the irritation.

Q. I have a bump next to my nostril pierceing, sort of like a pimple or blister, is it infected?

A.  Does puss sometimes ooze out? Is it tender near the bump? "Yes" to these could indicate a follicular cyst. Something is stuck inside the piercing or a pore or follicle near the piercing is blocked. Hot soaks should take care of it very quickly.

Q. Can I go swimming with a healing tattoo or piercing?

A. No, swimming in pools, lakes, or oceans, or soaking in hot tubs/bath tubs can result in infection on both tattoos and piercings.  If you are going to do it anyway at least use a waterproof bandage such as teh ones made by Tegaderm.

Q. Can I go tanning with a healing tattoo.

A. NO!  Doing so wil fade your tattoo and possibly irritate it.
__________________________________________________________________

Q. Can I go tanning with a healing piercing?

A. You can, but It's a bad idea.  The metal may heat up burning the skin, or you may stay in too long and get sun burn thus irritating the area making your piercing take longer to heal.

Q. Should I turn my jewelry while cleaning it?

A. No, this is something they tell you to do when you are pierced with a gun as the jewelry used is too short and rotating the jewelry is then necesary to prevent embedding.  When approproate jewelry is used (such as in needle piercings) spinning/rotating/turning the jewelry can actually cause irritation and make your piercing take longer to heal.

Q. Why don't you price tattoos over the phone, I live far away and coming in to get a price is difficult?

A. Tattoos are priced based on how long the artist feels it will take to do as well as how difficult the piece is to do. He/She needs to be able to see the size and reference material  and ask you questions to be able to price it.  If you can not come in to price it due to distance then please see our artists pages and email them to discuss the piece you want and email them any reference material, details, and aproximate measurements of the piece you want.
